The Jazz Factory

Concert

Undoubtedly the most exciting day on the Jazz Factory calendar is CONCERT DAY. Usually held in November, our concerts are held at the Greenhalgh Theatre at the UTS Ku-ring-gai in Lindfield.

Although the theatre seats 1100 odd people, Jazz Factory needs to perform two concerts in order to fit in all our audience members and all the dances that the students have prepared. We do one morning and one afternoon concert. Rather than having a Junior and a Senior concert as is done at many dance schools, for the audience’s enjoyment, both the morning and the afternoon concerts display the talents of students of a range of ages. All general jazz students will dance in either the morning or the afternoon concert, with senior students and performing troupes dancing in both concerts.

All students will require a costume for the concert. Most dance schools have their students purchase professional-made costumes for around $60 to $90 each. It just seems silly to pay so much money for something that the students will in all likelihood wear only once. So … the Jazz Factory buys and makes all its costumes (with the help of some great sewing mothers!) and hires its costumes to its students for a nominal fee each year ($10-15).

Our concert finales are a highlight every year, showcasing the talents of every performer in the concert. Around 350 performers dancing on stage, down the aisles and throughout the audience is quite a sight to behold! Past finale “themes” have included: the Olympics, Grease, Queen, Bat our of Hell, Hair, Showbusiness, Moulin Rouge, Chicago and Tribute to ABBA! 2005’s finale Dare to Dream followed the story of a young dancer’s path to stardom, 2006 saw us boogying with 70’s Disco Fever! and 2007 led us through the Evolution of Rock ‘n’ Roll! What does our audience have to look forward to in our 2008 finale?! You’ll have to wait and see!
