Undoubtedly the most exciting day on the Jazz Factory calendar is Concert Day. Usually held in November, our concerts are held at the Greenhalgh Theatre at the UTS Ku-ring-gai in Lindfield.
Although the theatre seats 1100 odd people, Jazz Factory needs to perform two concerts in order to fit in all our audience members and all the dances that the students have prepared. We do one morning and one afternoon concert. Rather than having a Junior and a Senior concert as is done at many dance schools, for the audience’s enjoyment, both the morning and the afternoon concerts display the talents of students of a range of ages. All general jazz students will dance in either the morning or the afternoon concert, with senior students and performance troupes dancing in both concerts.
Our concert finales are a highlight every year, showcasing the talents of every performer in the concert. Around 350 performers dancing on stage, down the aisles and throughout the audience is quite a sight to behold! Past finale ‘themes’ have included: the Olympics, Grease, Queen, Bat out of Hell, Hair, Showbusiness, Moulin Rouge, Chicago, Tribute to ABBA, Dare to Dream (following the story of a young dancer’s path to stardom), and 70’s Disco Fever! 2007 led us through the Evolution of Rock ‘n’ Roll! 2008 was the turn of West Side Story. 2009 saw us take on the major challenge of a Tribute to Michael Jackson in under 7 minutes. What does our audience have to look forward to in our 2010 finale?! You’ll have to wait and see!
Concert Date 2010: Sunday 21st November
Compulsory Stage Rehearsals: Saturday 20th November
Concert Times: 10:30am and 3pm
The Jazz Factory’s Trophy Day is a way of giving all Jazz Factory students the benefits of a yearly examination without the associated stress and worry! It’s fun! Each Jazz Factory class prepares and then presents a series of pre-prepared routines in front of our ‘Trophy Class Judge’, a visiting dance professional. Having participated in trophy day, all students receive an award at the concert, and certain students in each class, as selected by the judge, receive a trophy. Special awards are also made to students who’ve shown consistent effort throughout the year.
Following their trophy day class, students will have the opportunity to have an individual and class photograph in their concert costume.
Trophy Day 2010: Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st October at the Jazz Factory Studios

Performance Troupe classes are for those students up to 12 yrs (at 1st June 2010) in Levels II upwards, who wish to do a 2nd weekly class. Troupes compete in eisteddfods, dance at community events & do extra performances in our concerts. In class we work on performance routines as well as furthering general jazz technique. We always notice amazing progress in those girls doing this extra class and encourage anyone who’s interested to give it a go! In order to fulfil requirements for competition eligibility, troupes are age-based and are segregated according to enrolment numbers at each level.
